Five Ways To Relax After a Brutal Day

Whether you have a physically demanding job or a gig that stresses your mind, your workday can be rough. You likely want to calm yourself immediately when you finish your shift. These are some advice tidbits that will help you unwind and enjoy the rest of your day:

Eat Something Chocolatey

Chocolate has a way of touching the parts of us that need soothing the most. A quick taste of a Hershey's Kiss or chocolate bar can fill you with instant bliss. The theobromine in chocolate has proven itself as a mood elevator that boosts serotonin levels in the brain, so you'll have science on your side if you choose a candy binge.

The expert says dark chocolate is the best choice, but you'll see fast results if you get any of it into your system. Consider grabbing some candy the next time you leave work, and you'll be content before the ride home ends.

Burn a Calming Candle

You can do a small amount of aromatherapy to relax quickly, too. The candle's smell will hit your brain and set your calming chemicals in motion. The best scents for relaxation are lemongrass, eucalyptus, lavender, and chamomile.

Some experts crown chamomile as a sedative king, so you might want to try that one first. Furthermore, don't be afraid to drink some tea with similar scents and flavors. That way, you can hit yourself with calming nourishment in more than one way.

Go for a Massage

A massage is a powerful tool for relaxation and stress management, and the therapists are trained to touch areas that cause a response from your nervous system. A Swedish massage is an age-old method specialists use to facilitate mental and physical wellness. It's a great way to get the relaxation you need if you can fit it into your budget.

Kill the Noise

Sometimes, you only need to disappear into a quiet place and kill the noise. Killing the noise means turning all the electronics off and sitting by yourself. Shut the smartphone off so that you don't have to deal with annoying calls.

Turn your computer off so the outside world can't communicate with you. Shut down your television to avoid putting anything impure into your mind. Finally, throw up a "do not disturb" sign by closing your door and turning out all the bright lights.

Meditate

You've probably heard the suggestion to meditate many times. That's because it's still the most effective way to calm yourself. The key to meditate effectively is to let yourself go, however. You must be 100 percent willing to free your mind of all elements and "take the trash out" before starting.

Pretend that you don't have any life experiences, and bask in the newness of your new birth. Take a deep breath and inhale everything positive the universe offers. Savor it for as long as you can, and then breathe out any harmful residue you might have.

Take one of these concepts and run with it the next time you feel you can't wind down after work. You'll be astounded by how quickly you find peace.
